City-approved contractors (Cedar Rapids)
This list shows those contractors who have been certified through the city's contractor certification program to work in flood-damaged areas. The certification process is designed to protect the city's hard-hit flood victims against shysters and fly-by-nighters.
This list will be updated on a daily basis as more contractors become certified. Information presented here represents those companies certified through the end of business July 5, 2008. A list of certified individuals is not yet available.
The city's certification program requires companies that want to work in the city's flood evacuation areas to show they have registered with Iowa Workforce Development and that they have proper liability insurance.
In addition, skilled workers must prove they are licensed in their trade. Criminal background checks also are conducted, and photo I.D.'s, proving certification, are issued.
Companies must pay a $100 fine per day — they also can face jail time — if they do not comply with certification guidelines.
Complaints about price gouging? Report them to the Iowa Attorney General by calling (888) 777-4590 or (515) 281-5926.
